Iconic Wheels of Weed
As we leave the long shadow of prohibition, it becomes clearer everyday that Cannabis is nearly as iconic to American culture as the car. Here are a few awesome “wheels-of-weed” to enjoy as we head into 420!
Renault Le Car – “Dude, Where’s My Car?”
The goofy looking Renault Le Car was almost lost to faded memories of the 80s, but a starring role in “Dude, Where’s My Car” gave it one last hazy memory. And by last, we mean LAST. We can’t even find a YouTube video with the car in it. Seriously, if I lost a Le Car, I’d be stoked to upgrade to a bus pass.
Garth’s Pacer – “Wayne’s World”
Although no hotboxing (or any smoking) occurred in the film, the very essence of the characters indicated some major off-screen sessions. If you are a 420 movie purist and are looking for the GTO from Dazed and Confused, Garth’s Pacer took their spot. Why? Because Bohemian Rhapsody, that’s why!
Cheech and Chong’s Weed Van
This would be number one if we were only talking about movie cars. The 1978 masterpiece Up In Smoke imagined a van constructed entirely of weed. As Cheech and Chong gradually drive it from Mexico to California, hilarity ensues, culminating in the entire van going “Up in Smoke”. The reason this isn’t the top entry is that the idea isn’t outlandish, it’s brilliant. It’s just taking time to catch on.
Henry Ford’s Hemp Prototype
In 1941, long before the Yesca CannaCar, Henry Ford created a car with a body constructed partly of hemp. Additionally, he prototyped many engines optimized for Hemp Ethanol. Long before the discovery of photo-voltaic effect (Solar Panels) and the first Hybrid Car, Henry Ford knew the future lied in cannabis and renewable energy.
The Cannabis Mazda
Built on the chassis of a Mazda Miata, Bruce Dietzen took 100 lbs of hemp and created an ultra-light Spyder style two-seater. Drawing direct inspiration from Henry Ford’s hemp car, his renewable vision is 100% on point, but his vision for the future of hemp and cannabis is something stunted by nearly a century of prohibition.
As we wade into weed week, be cool. Enjoy your wheels of weed on the screen, not the roads. Don’t drive high.

Cannabis has proven itself as a versatile plant in many facets of our lives, with the most exciting being medical applications! I encourage people who are interested in medical marijuana not to let the unsavory stigma associated with it keep them from a viable option. For many patients who have tried prescription medications (even with success), the side effects of these drugs can outweigh the benefits. It’s important to speak to a doctor before stopping any medications; the last thing you want to do in your search for relief is to risk a withdrawal. Your doctor can advise you on the proper timeline and down-dosage based on your prescription (regardless of your reasons for doing so). Just like a certain pill isn’t the answer for everyone, not every strain of cannabis is for everyone when it comes to medical use. Read More
